A movie about surviving hardship produced on a low budget seemed appropriate. During the production I was the “crew.” It was just me and the actors. One of the inspirations for this crazy idea was an article by the French critic Alexandre Astruc. (The Birth of a New Avant-Barde: La Camera-Stylo 1948) He said something to the effect that in the future the filmmaker will be just like an author. They’ll be using a camera like an author uses a pen. That idea was really exciting. I took it as a challenge. It allowed me to capture some very intimate and realistic moments that were always at the heart of the story.

Love Like Blood
Love Like Blood is a story from the streets of New York. Kevin (Thaddeus Schneider – “Law & Order” / “Rescue Me”) is a notorious car thief at the top of his game. His life is about stolen cars, sex and cash. But as good as Kevin is, he knows it’s only a matter of time until he’ll get caught. Before his life starts to completely unravel, Kevin tries to walk away from his criminal lifestyle and start over. Can he get out before it’s too late? Does Kevin own the streets or do the streets own him? Kevin knows he is going down… but on whose terms? Running Time: 84 minutes

We made Love Like Blood just as digital was coming into its own. I storyboarded and rehearsed it like we were shooting on film. All that preparation saved time, money and made it possible to accomplish everything we wanted. Big influences on Love Like Blood were Hank Williams – especially his “Luke The Drifter” records, the theme of sinning on Saturday night, repenting on Sunday morning… Johnny Cash, a lot of Bruce Springsteen and the paintings of Gustave Doré. Michelle Giancola and Carolyn Hepburn were the producers, Steven Gladstone shot it and Lauren Nadler was the casting director. Love Like Blood was filmed in Long Island, Upstate New York, Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn
